interesting to note that 6 of the Gloucestershire pack were England internationals. Of the two uncapped forwards, Cowling would later play for England, Smith would be capped for Scotland. Mike Rafter in the Devon pack would later play for Bristol and England.

What did you do on the last day of the 60's? Despite the best efforts of Peter Hain to prevent it, 12 players from Gloucestershire and 3 from Somerset scored a memorable draw against what would be the the last South African tourists for many years. Morris of Lydney got the Counties penalty from in front of the posts.
